Steven Rojas is the Director of Social Media at GrandLife Hotels NYC, a New York City native, and a first time marathon runner for Team Free Arts. We asked him a few questions about what’s going on in his head as the big day approaches…

1) Taking on the 26.2 mile challenge is a huge undertaking, tell us what:
a. Scares you the most about training?
Everything,  as a child I was terrible at conventional sports. I still remember being in 3rd grade and this girl Jill saying she would be my race partner during gym because she knew I was a slow runner and she would let me win.
b. Excites you the most about training?
That extra mile. When I first started running I couldn’t go more than a block without coughing up a lung, today I am happy to say that I can go a few miles without a need to stop.
2) What would you tell someone else who’s thinking about running a marathon for the first time?
Lets run together.
3) Where are your favorite places to run in NYC?
I love running in Central Park, it’s very New York and the hills are challenging.
4) Why do you think FANYC arts mentoring programs are important to low income kids?
Having been born into a low income family myself, I understand the struggles children face in a world with no access to the arts. It is important that people back foundations such as FANYC and make sure children have creative outlets in order to grow into their full potential. Had it not been for my mother and art teachers in my youth, I don’t know where I would be now.
5) What’s on your running playlist?
I have so much music on my running playlist. Sometimes it’s punk, dance, rap, emo, rock, mixes… Music and running both strike emotional cords in me and I get lost in both.
On my last run I was listening to:
Houdini (RAC Remix) - Foster The People
Mother Protect (Goldroom Remix) - Niki & The Dove
IS TROPICAL (Dandydeath Manner Remix) - Land of the Nod
Psychic City - (Classixx Remix) - Yacht
Something Good Can Work - (The Twelves Remix) Two Door Cinema Club
Friends (Jonny Pow!! Remix)- Sneaky Sound System
Don’t Play No Trash (Beastie Boys x Santigold x Weird Tapes) - The Hood Internet
I Love Living in the City’ - Fear
Beat My Guest  - Adam And The Ants
1969 - Iggy Pop and the Stooges
Firefly - Saves the Day
Jimmy Eat World - A Praise Chorus
